Short Description
This is a good intro first stage from Bolzano in a southerly direction to Laives/Leifers and continue on roads with little traffic to Ora/Auer, where the road leads up in several bends along a steep porphyry wall and finally flows onto a natural terrace. After a short, relaxing stretch of flat land, you turn off at “Brückenwirt” onto the road to Monte San Pietro/Petersberg. The start of the timed section is at the parking lot in front of the bridge. The next 9.5 km and 590 m of climbing to the finish line in Monte San Pietro/Petersberg have to be covered in “race mode”. In Aldein/Aldino the worst is over and you can start the final spurt. After the finish arch, the road leads to the highest point of the day, to Pietralba/Maria Wessenstein, South Tyrol’s most important pilgrimage site with the imposing basilica, in whose shadow the feed station awaits riders so re-fuel yourself. Re-charged you roll over the Reggelberg plateau, on the western edge of the Fiemme Valley Dolomites, to Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen. In Rauth you reach the road to valley of Eggental. You can now relax somewhat because the 20 km to Cardano/Kardaun is a single flowing descent. From here, the last few kilometers are covered in a relaxed manner until you arrive in Bolzano: There in the trade fair, a well-deserved lunch awaits all cyclists.
